It's vegetable tanned leather and craft paint - I think Folk Art in gold? Trick is to first wet the leather in the spots you're going to paint, then paint it - this allows the leather to grab the material. I did at least 5 to 7 coats of paint on that one.
Just a suggestion, if you're going to make a messenger bag, I wouldn't use a chain as a strap unless you put another piece of leather where the chain would meet your shoulder as padding. The weight of whatever you'd put in a messenger bag would make the chain dig into your shoulder and/or break, and that would suck. I'd use a thicker chain, larger D rings, and put in a padding section.
Hi, did you do more in this style during the mean time? Looks really pretty but I don't have a use for a small bag. Did you think about messengers bags? And if so, how much you reckon it would cost?
I don't replicate things in order to sell them, I make everything on a commission basis. The things I DO make are completely random, haha.
A messenger bag would run at least 90. I haven't ever made something that large, simply for the fact that you can make more of smaller-sized things with a single side of leather.
Hm, I'm seriously tempted to do a commission but I'm also kinda afraid of the tax I'd probably need to pay. (I live in the Netherlands). Do you already have experience on that?
Oh that makes things impossible for now then. What if I asked you if I can plagiarize your bag? I would especially love to know which paint you used and if it's holding on?
